Hey, everybody, welcome to Podcast Your Business. I’m Sunny Gault. I am a podcast coach. I’m a mentor. I’ve been podcasting for 17 years. I’m also the founder and CEO of Independent Podcast Network. You can check us out at https://independentpodcast.network. It is the longest URL in history. And I’m here to help you create amazing podcasts for your business. We do this by mastering the five P’s of podcasting. Thank you radio man, yes, the five P’s of podcasting. This is something I discovered just Gosh, from just eating sleeping breathing podcasts for the last 17 years. And I really started to think about well, what is it that we do as podcasters? And I found that everything can really be lumped into five different categories. So if you can master those categories, then you are a what would we call it like a master full podcaster? Basically, you know what you’re doing, right? And those five P’s are prep, plan, produce, promote, and profit. So radio man, what are we talking about today? Plan? Yeah, I would definitely say this falls under Plan, you might be able to put it under Produce as well. But it’s really more about the mindset of being able to repurpose your podcast content. See, in podcasting, you should always put quality over quantity. So if you’re going to spend a fair amount of time working on each episode, the best way to get the most out of each of those episodes is to take your content, and repurpose it in multiple places using different formats. But all of this is coming from the same source, right? It’s your podcast, it’s just kind of going out there in different forms and connecting with different people. So here are some of the topics we’re going to talk about. Today, we’re going to talk about why you should repurpose your content, we’ll discuss various ways you can repurpose your content, and you guys will probably come up with a lot more beyond what we talked about today. And finally, we’re going to talk about a couple common mistakes that I see people make when they’re repurposing their content. I mean, there’s no foolproof, right or wrong way to do this. But there are a couple of things I’ve seen in the past that kind of make me cringe. And those are going to be the things I share with you today. We’ll get started right after this quick break.

3:23
Okay, are you ready to make the most out of your podcast week after week or whenever you release it? Let’s get started. Why repurpose your podcast content? Let’s start with that general question. Because you have to know why am I going through all these steps? What is the benefit here? So I’ve got three different reasons for you the first one, you get more bang for your buck. Okay, you’re putting out more content. And it doesn’t take that much more brain capacity. Because you’re already it’s kind of like you’re you’re on this one track mind. Right? Whatever your topic is, you’re just thinking about different ways to repurpose that, and how to do that in different formats. But you’re not completely changing the topic, which requires a ton more brainpower. So you’re creating more content. And because you’re kind of doing this in a bulk way, right? You’re saving time, and you’re saving money. So I think that’s number one. And when you have a business, time is money, right? And like I said, in today’s intro, you’re probably busy doing a lot of different things for your business. And I’m so glad that either you’re already doing a podcast or you’re thinking about doing a podcast, but let’s face it, there’s only so much time in the day. So we really want to make this work for you. Reason number two, it helps keep you more organized and focused. Because you have to do more planning, right? We talked about that. That’s our P word. Right? You have to do more planning to know well, what am I going to talk about in this format, right, and then how am I going to repurpose it and what part of my podcasts am I going to talk about when I repurpose it in that form? Matt. Now I typically use a program called Trello to kind of organize my ideas, and you can download it for free. It’s a web based program, I can assign different tasks usually to myself. Actually, I’m just kind of organizing this all on my own. I can assign myself different deadlines and things like that for the different ways I want to repurpose my podcast content. So highly recommend that. Okay, reason number three, it allows you to connect with different audiences in different places, by places I’m talking about places online, or, you know, wherever they happen to be, right, because someone that listens to a podcast may not be the same person that watches a video online, or that reads a blog post, right. And even if it is kind of the same person, we all get in different moods. So maybe one day, I want to watch a video. And the next day, I am too busy to watch a video, right? I’m on the elliptical, hopefully, wink, wink, elliptical. And I can only listen to a podcast right because I’m I like to watch stuff when I’m on the elliptical. So our schedules change your moods change. And we want to reach as many people as possible and we want to grow our base as quickly as possible. So that’s point number three. So that’s why you should repurpose your content.

6:19
Now let’s talk about the different ways you can repurpose your podcast content. I’m going to go through some of the main ones different things that I’ve tried on my podcasting journey. I’m hoping as you guys are listening to this, that you come up with, like 20 more different ideas. Okay, but but here’s some of the main ones. First, consider, and I know this may be scary for some of you consider going live or streaming your content life. Okay? Because there are certain algorithms out there, it’s just gonna give you an extra push. Okay, now we’ll talk in a second about what to push out live. But just consider that idea. Are you okay? And does your format for your show work in doing your podcast live? So just just consider that because it really can give you an extra boost. Okay. Now, what are you pushing out live, I highly recommend that in addition to recording audio for your podcast, you also do video. Now, I know that’s a big ask, okay. But this can help you in so many different ways. One of the things I feel like I’ve struggled with a lot with podcasting is when I go to promote my episodes, I feel like I don’t have a lot of good visuals to show people. You know, I’ve always thought that that’s kind of what podcasting was missing. And so if you add video to it, it really does help. Most of us are also really drawn to video, even if it’s just for teaser purposes, and stuff like that, consider doing video as well. So you have that opportunity to do different things with it and to repurpose it in different ways. I think about Joe Rogan, and I’m not a huge Joe Rogan fan, I’ve seen a few episodes, but it’s not really my style. But that I mean, he’s made millions and millions of dollars, and he does not have a fancy setup. You know, he’s not doing a lot of editing, it is still about the content of the podcast, the audio side of it really, because not doing a lot of fancy stuff visually, although there are some funny things that he does with his guests that really lend themselves more to video than audio. But he’s still primarily an audio podcast, but the video is really what’s taken off on YouTube, right. So I encourage you guys to record video as well.

8:45
Now obviously, once you have the audio and video for the video, you can strip the audio and make that into an audio podcast. The only tricky thing with that that you have to really be concerned about is if you are going to be visual with your video, and you’re going to show things to the camera. Obviously, your audience for an audio podcast isn’t going to be able to see that so you need to be mindful of that. But you can easily strip the audio and then there you go. There’s your audio podcast. Once you have the audio for your podcast, you can take that you can do a ton of different things with it. Once you do this next step. This is an important step. Create a transcript for your podcast, a lot of video recording sites that you might be using for podcasts. They offer free transcriptions. So that may be a resource for you that you want to look into. Now that’s going to capture your your raw audio and the transcript from your raw audio. So you may need to go back in there and tweak some things and figure some things out. But still, that’s good. That’s a great start. At least you don’t have to do everything from scratch right? I use a resource called otter.ai. And I believe I’ve mentioned it on the show before, I will include the link below to get a discount if you guys are interested in using otter.ai. But they’ve got a great transcript program really does pick things up really, really well, I don’t have to make a ton of changes to it. So highly recommend that. And by the way, you can put your transcript on your website and use it in different ways. And that’s what we’re going to mainly focus on now. But you can use it for SEO purposes and put it on your website. From there really, the possibilities are kind of endless, because now you’ve got your podcast in written form. This is also a great place. By the way, if you guys want to outsource any content, or you know the writing and you know, the creation of additional content. At this point, this is a great point to do it, you’ve done the hard work, you’ve done the prep and everything that you’ve needed to do. And now someone can take this transcript, which are your words, or your guests words, right. And they can do a ton of different things with it. So now let’s talk about this a little bit more. You could create an ebook, or a course maybe it’s over multiple podcasts. But you could lay the groundwork for creating that type of content, or perhaps a downloadable a free download signing up for your newsletter, get this free download, I do that all the time on the shows, right? You can do that once you have the transcript because you have the written word or again, hire someone else to do it. But they’re your words, once you have the words to create a blog post for it. And then you know, the little bots that go out there that comb the internet and determine how things should be ranked. blog posts are great for that. It’s one of the things that sometimes frustrates me a little bit with podcasts is because everything is verbal, we don’t get all the benefit that the bloggers get for SEO purposes. But this is one way you can. So you’ve got your blog post.

12:03
Next, you can create a ton of content for your newsletter. If you’ve got a newsletter that goes out, maybe it’s a snippet from one of your blogs. So you can put out content through your newsletter. And then oh my goodness, so much stuff for social. If you are posting on social, I’ll just run through this list really quickly. If you guys know what audio grams are, I’m a fan of audio grams. If you really want to promote your podcast on social media, I feel like we should do a whole episode on audio grams, because people have different feelings about this. But this is essentially it’s usually a clip and audio clip from your podcast. You can put some visuals behind it usually has some waveforms that go back and forth. And maybe the words appear on the screen. But it is a snippet of your show that can be easily shared on social media. And I think if you are going to promote your podcast on social, that’s the best way to do it. infographics. I’ve never done an infographic. But I always think that they’re amazing. So if you wanted to hire out to do some amazing infographic that everyone wants to share on social fantastic, you could do image quotes, you could do memes, you could take some of that content and do a quick little YouTube short I feel like that’s like all the rage right now are these YouTube shorts, even though you don’t get paid to do YouTube shorts? Apparently, it’s really helpful for filtering people to your YouTube channel. So there you go.

13:25
Now let’s talk about common mistakes people make, there’s two that come to mind. And the first one is that you feel like you have to do every single option I just laid out for you. I would say if you can pick three different ways to repurpose your podcast, you are doing awesome. And the second mistake I see all the time is people just copying and pasting the information to different platforms. So you do want to understand the user habits of whatever platform you’re using, and try to make it unique as unique as possible. And I have a blog post by the way that talks about all the benefits of repurposing your podcast, which again is a perfect example of repurposing your content. So if you want more information on all that stuff, I just talked about a lot of that, as mentioned in the blog post, I will include a link below. I’ll be right back after this quick break.
